Description
The large and stately Partridge Brahma chicken is a dual-purpose egg and meat breed. The gorgeous rooster has rich red plumage with accents of satiny black feathers on the breast and tail. The pretty hen differs in being a deep reddish bay with black penciling.
Brahmas are meaty, slow-growing chickens from Asia. The hens start laying at around 6 to 7 months of age. They are good winter layers of brown-shell eggs and are exceptional at hatching eggs and raising chicks.
The Brahma’s small pea comb, large size, and close feathering make it especially suited to cold weather. Their leg feathers, however, must be monitored for accumulated snow or mud. These chickens tolerate warm weather well if provided with ample water and shade.
The Partridge Brahma chicken is a good forager. The Partridge plumage pattern makes the Brahma less vulnerable to predation, and the breed is too heavy to attract most flying predators.
